Happy New Year! and a pavlova first attempt

The Pavlova: a fluffy cloud of meringue topped with poached fruit and vanilla whipped cream. 

Should be light and enticing... 

mine was crunchy and a sloppy mess (4th picture) 



Following this recipe from Cooking Channel's Lorraine Pascale (here), I recreated this airy dessert to what amounted to an aesthetic fail (probably due to inexperience) - however, the flavors were delicious and worked beautifully together... I reserved the spiced wine used from poaching the fruit and we added it to some champagne (and sparkling cider) to ring in the new year for a yummy treat!
